Rain Check is the meeting of two songwriters from Finistère and their respective inspirations: Brendan De Roeck and Raphaël Gouvy. Brendan is a talented blues-jazz-rock guitarist whose riffs have accompanied many a vocalist, while Raphaël is an indie-folk singer with a voice that is at times suave, at times crystalline and full of emotion.
From the very first time they met, their guitars, keyboards and vocals never cease to respond to each other in a dance that is by turns poetic and catchy, where their two worlds intertwine.
While the dominant colour of Rain Check’s songs is akin to American folk music, with acoustic guitar and vocals, the addition of electric guitars, keyboards and percussion opens up a wide universe where the two musicians don’t shy away from digressing into rock or pop. The obvious gentleness of the vocals and instruments suddenly give way, in progressive rhythms and harmonies, to shifting, exhilarating rises in sound and electricity.
A duo that goes straight to the heart of the matter, without artifice.
